Some days homeschooling can feel heavy.
Biology, especially, can start to feel like one more big subject you have to “do right.”
This week, I didn’t overcomplicate it.
I printed a PDF, sat down with my three boys (ages 12–17), pressed play on Crash Course Biology #1… and we were done in about 45 minutes.
No labs.
No prep.
No long lecture from me.
The worksheet gave the lesson structure.
We paused when someone had a question.
We talked through what actually makes something “alive.”
They filled in the notes as we went.

And here’s the part that matters in homeschool:
You’re not simply teaching — you’re documenting their learning.
Some days that means labs, projects, and thick textbooks. Other days, it’s a well-chosen video, intentional pauses, and a completed worksheet that shows they understood the material.
Both are valid.
Today we documented a solid biology lesson — and we moved on without overwhelm.
My 12-year-old understood the big ideas.
My older two pushed the conversation further.
And when we finished, I had a clean assignment ready to upload to our Charter teacher.
That felt like a win.
If you want a simple, ready-made lesson to pair with Crash Course Biology #1, this is the worksheet we used:

It takes the video and turns it into a structured lesson without making it complicated.
Some days you’ll do labs and big projects.
Some days you’ll document learning with a thoughtful video and guided notes.
Both move your students forward.
You’ve got this.
